"This painting centers a sex worker taking a quiet moment to read a book between shifts. I wanted to push back on the way sex work is often framed as spectacle or “scene,” and instead show a working person with a full interior life... tired, present, thinking, learning... trying to hold onto herself in the gaps the world leaves her. It’s about the struggle and the gutters, yes, but also the ordinary grit of survival: paying rent, supporting family, carrying history, and still reaching for something that feels like possibility."
